Nuneaton and Bedworth local elections 2024 - every candidate named ahead of 'significant' vote
With less than a month to go until Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council's 2024, all of the candidates standing have been revealed. This year's local election is among the most significant in recent years.
This is because changes made by the Local Government Boundary Commission have led to new wards being created. It means that there has had to be a 're-set' and rather than half of the council's seats being up for grabs, as elections are traditionally held every two years, this year will see every seat contested.
Also, following the boundary commission review, a number of existing wards have also had their names changed. The following new wards have been created:
Chilvers Coton
Eastboro
Milby
St Mary’s
Stockingford East
Stockingford West
The 'all-out' election means that 38 councillors need to be elected in total, with every seat in every ward up for grabs. Now each party has revealed which candidates are standing in each of the wards. Unsurprisingly, the Conservative and Labour parties have candidates vying for every seat.
The Tories will be looking to continue to have control over the Town Hall while Labour will be looking to win it back having lost power back in 2021. The Green Party is also fielding candidates in several wards as is the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition.
There are two Coventry Citizens Party candidates standing for the two available seats in the Exhall ward, and in the Slough ward in Bedworth and in the Attleborough ward in Nuneaton, two independents are standing.
The only Liberal Democrat candidate is standing in Weddington.
