Nuneaton leisure centre brings in 'no show' charge for one specific group of visitors

A Nuneaton leisure centre has brought in a new 'no show' charge into force. It started today (July 1) and is aimed at swimmers.

A post on the Pingles Leisure Centre page on Facebook explained that the £4 charge is to make sure that 'everyone has a fair chance of securing a lane swim space'. "This will be charged to those who either fail to show up or cancel within four hours of the start time," the post said.

"We put these charges in place to discourage people from booking and not attending, which stops other people from being able to attend."

It went on to explain: "We hope you understand why we are implementing the change, and hopefully, this will ensure people who want to join in our lane swims can."

Back in 2018, a report identified that more than £10 million needs to be splashed out on upgrading swimming pools to keep in lane with increasing demand across Nuneaton and Bedworth. Work to create a new physical activity hub to replace the old leisure centre in Bedworth is set to start soon.

This will include new swimming lanes. But there are no funded proposals for the Pingles Leisure Centre as yet.
