Nuneaton pavilion to be bulldozed for new sports hub

An ageing Nuneaton pavilion is set to be bulldozed for new sports hub. Sandon Park is set to be given a brand new facility.

Back in 2018, the then council had looked into mothballing the sports venue. But then Ambleside Junior Football Club took over lease of the long-standing Weddington-based facility.

The junior club, which has hundreds of children in its teams, said it wanted to transform 'Sandon so that generations of footballers can use it. Now it h as unveiled its plans.

In an application to the borough council it has asked for permission to demolish the existing pavilion and build a new sports building, to include increase car parking area.

It would see the number of parking spaces rise from 59 to 136. Within the application are designs for the new building, which will provide a sports hub for football teams.

They show a number of both home and away dressing rooms as well as changing rooms for officials. There will also be a baby changing facility and disabled toilet, male and female toilets, a meeting room and a kitchen with a serving hatch.

The plans are now being looked at by planning officers at the Town Hall. People can look at the proposals via the council's website, searching in the planning application section for reference 040248.

The deadline for any comments about the plans is May 17. The target decision date for the proposal has been set as June 18.
