Nuneaton police say 'would prefer' as fans set to hit town for England Euro 2024 final

The hopes of a nation rest on the England team's shoulders when they take on Spain in the final of the Euros 2024. But trouble makers in Nuneaton risk not being able to celebrate if the Three Lions roar to victory in Berlin on Sunday (July 14).

The game kicks-off at 8pm but fans are expected to head out earlier to get a seat to watch the match and, if they head into Nuneaton town centre, they can expect to see more police. There will be an 'enhanced policing presence' out in force.

This is in addition to the regular Safer Neighbourhood Team Enhanced Police Initiative late-night shift. Inspector Ryan Walker warned those who cause issues could miss the match while in the custody block.

"We’re very pleased to see that England have reached the finals of the Euros.," Sgt Walker said. "To ensure that everyone has a safe time while we’re watching on Sunday, we’re going to have an enhanced presence in the town throughout the evening.

“Our team is looking forward to celebrating or commiserating the results with you, and we would prefer if possible for this to take place outside, rather than inside, our custody block."

Hours before the kick-off at 8pm, Nuneaton town centre will host its annual food festival. It will see stalls selling everything from pancakes to cannolis and Pimms set-up in Queens Road.
