Nuneaton secondary school £6.6m expansion latest as new detail revealed

A £6.6m extension at a Nuneaton secondary school is taking shape with a new detail set to be added. It is currently being constructed at Etone College and will eventually replace its old 1950s teaching block.

Works have been ongoing since spring last year and now an application has been made to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council to approve some conditions put in place when planning permission was granted. One of these is in regards to a noise assessment, which has now been completed.

It says that a specialist acoustics screen will be put in place to mitigate noise. Another condition was to confirm that the building's operational hours, with it only in use during school hours, will be from 7am until 5pm.

The removal of the conditions will have to be rubber-stamped by officers at the borough council. Once completed the extension at the school, which is part of the Matrix Academy Trust, will have 23 new classrooms, is complete. It will solar panels on the roof and LED lighting as part of the building's 'green' elements.

The two storey high building will also have a balcony area with a roof top plant area. It should pave the way for it to be able to welcome another 150 students. and it is scheduled to be completed by September.
