Nursery where staff build ‘warm’ relationships with children gets ‘good’ rating in first ever Ofsted report
A Burwell nursery has gained a 'good' rating after its first ever Ofsted inspection. Red House Day Nursery on High Street was first registered in 2021.
The Ofsted report, based on an inspection in April 2024, was published on Monday (May 13). It described an environment where children "feel safe" and staff members "build strong, trusting relationships" with them.
The report continues: "Children enjoy interacting with staff and staff know children very well. This helps them to plan activities and experiences that children will join in with and enjoy."

During the inspection, the privately-owned nursery looked after 73 children aged between one and four. It had 14 members of staff, including the nursery chef. Eight of these held early years qualifications at level 3 or above.
There are three rooms listed on its website: a toddler room, for children aged between three months and two years old; a junior room, for children between two and three years and three months; and a pre-school room for those up to the age of four. There is also a sleep room, allowing children to take a nap, and an outdoor play area complete with a 'mud kitchen' vegetable garden.
The report continued: "Leaders have developed a curriculum across the nursery which has a strong focus on independence skills. Babies use cutlery very well and children wash their hands and dish up their own dinner.
"Staff have high expectations for children's behaviour. They use strategies, such as sand timers, to support children to take turns.
"Children make good progress with their learning and development. There is an ambitious curriculum which helps children build on their skills and prepares them for the next stage in their learning.
"Staff identify and support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and provide individualised support to help children make good progress."
The nursery gained a 'good' rating in every area inspected by Ofsted: education quality; behaviour and attitudes; personal development; and leadership and management.
