A healthy eating expert has explained the slimming benefits of one food that can be bought for less than £1.

Knowing what to eat for weight loss can be a huge minefield as there is so much conflicting advice out there. Of course there are plenty of manufactured snacks that claim to be avid flab fighters, but a more natural dairy product may out do them all.

According to one nutritionist, a humble serving of Greek yogurt is a weight management "game-changer", with a 200g tub available from 80p at Sainsbury's. Guna Bilande, who helps bariatric patients at Weight Loss Riga, combines scientific research and practical experience to highlight the transformative benefits of adding the creamy yogurt to your daily diet.

As reported by Gloucestershire Live, she said: "Greek yoghurt is a nutritional powerhouse. Packed with protein, probiotics and essential nutrients, it possesses a unique combination of properties that make it a game-changer for weight management."

Delving into the science behind Greek yoghurt's effectiveness, Guna referenced a significant study conducted in 2021. This research explored the impact of dairy consumption on post-meal glycemia and appetite levels, revealing compelling evidence of Greek yoghurt's role in appetite suppression.

"The findings of this study are nothing short of remarkable," she said. "Greek yoghurt, when consumed alongside carbohydrates, has been shown to significantly reduce post-meal glycemia and curb appetite, thanks to its high protein content."

But what sets Greek yoghurt apart from its counterparts? Guna highlighted its unparalleled versatility and satiating power.

"Protein is the key," she said. "Greek yoghurt's rich protein content not only enhances feelings of fullness and satiety but also helps regulate appetite throughout the day."

Whether enjoyed as a standalone snack, blended into smoothies, or incorporated into savoury dishes, Greek yoghurt offers endless culinary possibilities.

When it comes to including it in your everyday diet, Guna said: "Start by incorporating a modest serving of Greek yoghurt, roughly 150 to 200 grams, into your daily meals. Experiment with different flavour combinations and recipes to keep things exciting and sustainable. Over time, the benefits will become apparent, as cravings diminish, and weight loss becomes more achievable.”

A 500g tub is around £1.10 in supermarkets, working out at 33p per serving, Guna said.
