Odsonne Edouard to Celtic return rumour explodes but Adam Idah shows why HE'S the number one contender

Celtic fans may be rubbing their hands at the prospect of getting Odsonne Edouard back next season - but firmer target Adam Idah showed once again why he's the number one contender.

Brendan Rodgers is on the hunt for quality this summer and reports that Edouard could be on the way out at Crystal Palace sparked a social media explosion on Tuesday. Fans pouring over the prospect of a box office reunion with Rodgers got his name trending on X and the Chinese whispers quickly turned into rampant speculation that it might just be on.

No decision on Edouard's future is likely to be made immediately with new boss Oliver Glasner still considering his options. But one man who might be keen to get his own ducks in a row in the foreseeable is Adam Idah. The Ireland striker netted nine times for Hoops in the second half of last season and won over the skeptics with a series of increasingly strong performances.

He scored the winner against Rangers in the Scottish Cup final and it's believed a £6m deal between Celtic and Norwich is in the works. English pundit Carlton Palmer believes Norwich are planning to 'have a look' at him in pre-season and that would be the sensible route to take for the Canaries who could have a gem on their hands if his recent exploits are anything to go by.

As well as his nine goals in 19 games return for Celtic last season, he scored against Hungary with a towering header on Tuesday night - one that had fans arguing amongst themselves on social media circles over who is the better option: Idah or Edouard.

But there's no doubting 23-year-old Idah is the one proving it right now and he does appear to be Celtic's main target to compete with Kyogo up front next season. Speaking on the target man, former England midfielder Palmer told Football League World: "He looks back to his very best, and it’s a player that you’ve got on your books that you haven’t got to go out and buy.

"Of course it makes sense to see how it goes in pre-season, see if he’s happy, because that’s a big thing in football these days, and is he happy to continue playing for Norwich? If he is, and he’s content and playing regularly, then it’s happy days and a win-win for both parties."
