The Office US co-creator Greg Daniels has responded to rumours suggesting the show could be returning for a reboot.

The popular sitcom ended in 2013 after nine seasons, with main star Steve Carell bowing out in 2011. There's since been plenty of rumours about a reboot, though nothing has ever come to fruition. Yet.

Speaking to Collider for Prime Video's Upload, Daniels clarified whether fans can actually expect the show to return to our screens.

"Well, I think that it's very speculative," he said.

"The fact that it kind of blew up based on one line in a puck piece was kind of cool, I guess, in the sense that the fans still care a lot," he added. "But the thing I would say is, when there's something to announce, I will definitely announce it."

Though fans will have to wait to find out the future of a possible reboot, it sounds like it's not out of the question.

Daniels previously told Collider about the potential for The Office to continue in some capacity, saying: "It would just be sort of like an extension of the universe, you know what I mean, like the way [The] Mandalorian is like an extension of Star Wars."

But while we'll have to wait and see what happens with the US version of the show, we do know there's something brewing from down under. A female-led Australian remake of The Office, which was announced back in June.

The Prime Video series will centre around Hannah Howard (played by Felicity Ward), who wrestles business demands after the COVID-19 pandemic as chief of packaging company Flinley Craddick.

Ricky Gervais, the creator and star of the original British series, has opened up about his excitement for the Australian series.

"I'm very excited about Australia remaking my little show from the turn of the century," he said. "Office politics have changed a bit in 20 years, so [I] can't wait to see how they navigate a modern-day David Brent."

The Office Australia will air on Prime Video in 2024.
