Ohio alt-rockers Citizen on their top 5 UK tour memories

Following the release of their fifth studio album, Calling The Dogs, last October, Ohio based alt-rockers, Citizen, are hitting the British Isles this week with post-hardcore heavyweights, Drug Church, in tow.

The album, produced by Rob Schnapf (Elliot Smith, Joyce Manor), is the band’s most realised yet, and sees them explore themes of personal growth and self-awareness with guitar-driven honesty.

In anticipation for their upcoming UK stint, we asked both Citizen to fill us in on their top 5 UK tour memories. You can read them in full below.

Debuting As You Please in Manchester (2017)

In October 2017, we kicked off a tour in Manchester. It was the first time we were playing new songs. Our album As You Please had either just come out or was about to release. Debuting songs is always nerve wracking but especially away from home. But the second we started our set with “Jet,” the vibe was so insanely electric and everyone knew the words despite its newness. I remember that feeling and probably always will. It gave me a lot of hope for the next couple years of Citizen.

Maida Vale (2016)

In January 2016, we did a Maida Vale session for BBC and it was a legendary experience to be in such historic quarters.

Reading and Leeds (2016)

Playing Reading & Leeds that summer (2016) was a big accomplishment for us. We grew up all watching our favorite bands R+L sets on YouTube, so it was pretty surreal to experience that firsthand for Citizen.

Sightseeing in Brighton (2016)

Whenever we come to the UK, we’re always in and out and hardly get time to really enjoy the trip. Usually it’s in winter and it’s hard to enjoy anything at all. I remember vividly a day in Brighton in August 2016, however. We hit the pier and the Royal Pavilion Gardens and it was nice to be able to be outside a venue for once.

Cliff jumping with Headroom

When we came over to the UK for the first time, Headroom took us cliff jumping – can’t remember where, but it was an awesome watering hole with huge rocks.
