Oil spill causes temporary closure on busy road

Police have been assisting with the clean up of an oil spill on a busy route in Dorset.

Officers from Weymouth Responses Officers were dealing with what they described as a large oil spill on Portland Beach Road earlier today (Friday, June 14). The spill was reported at 10.08am.

According to police, the oil has been identified as engine fluid. The road was reopened at 12.30pm, with traffic returning to normal.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police, said: "At 10.08am on Friday, June 14, we received a report of a broken-down lorry on the A354 Portland Beach Road on Portland.

"It was reported that there was engine fluid on the road. Officers attended the incident and the road was temporarily closed to allow for recovery of the lorry and for the local authority to attend. The road was reopened at 12.30pm.

"Weymouth Response Officers would like to thank the public for their patience whilst we were dealing with a large oil spill on Portland Beach Road today."
