The old Poundworld site in Rochdale town centre will be transformed into a new apartment block. Some 26 flats will be built in the vacant retail unit on Yorkshire street.

There will be a mixture of one-bed and studio flats on the ground, first and second floors, with a coffee shop ‘likely’ to take up another space. The current retail unit, previously home to Poundworld before it closed in 2018, will be split in two.

New ‘art-deco’ shop fronts will be put in on Baillie Street and Yorkshire Street. Access to the flats will be via The Banks. There will be bike storage in the foyer.

There will be no car parking due to a lack of space and the development's location in the town centre.

The building itself will remain largely unchanged, though a roof extension is planned to increase its height and alter its angle.

The site was chosen due to its town centre location, with access to shops and key transport links - it is just 210m from the Rochdale Metrolink tram stop.
