Olly Murs got a 'huge' backstage shock at Birmingham's Utilita Arena this week when a giant surprise was delivered to the gig venue to mark the singer's 40th birthday. Olly, who was supporting Take That on their This Life On Tour run of shows, was presented with a gigantic Greggs pasty before he took to the stage for his set.

Greggs wished Olly a "Happy Sausagey Beany 40th birthday" via the metre-long confection, which was topped with golden, realistic puff pastry icing and filled with 'baked beans'. The huge cake contained two kilograms of cherries in kirsch, three kilos of ganache and eight kilograms of buttercream, all designed to look like his favourite savoury.

The cake was shared at a backstage party to celebrate Olly's milestone birthday and there was plenty of pud to share with everyone. However, Greggs included 12 hidden drawers inside the cake box with a dozen real deal Sausage, Bean and Cheese Melts stored inside for a savoury bonus.

In a sweet touch, the cake was made in partnership with ML Bespoke Cakes who created Olly's wedding cake when he and Amelia Tank said their vows last July. Greggs has been a consistent theme in the couple's lives and earlier this year, Olly dressed up as a sausage roll for Amelia's baby shower where the theme was 'Preggs'.

Posting a photo with the giant cake, Olly said: "Oh my god, look at it. The best cake ever!"

Take That brought the house down following the show, though there's no confirmation about whether they were filled up on pastries at the time. Our reporter Dayna was in the crowd and as well as her full review, shared how Gary halted proceedings to ask the audience 'whose idea was this?'. Read about it here.
