Olly Murs snubs twin brother as he announces huge career move amid decade-long feud

Olly Murs has revealed a significant career shift, just days after his 40th birthday celebrations were marred by the absence of his estranged twin brother Ben. The 'Dance With Me Tonight' singer took to Instagram on Friday to announce his participation in the Madison Invitational charity golf day, an annual event that raises funds for those less fortunate.

The X Factor star, who shot to fame following his appearance on the 2009 show, shared a promotional photo of himself on the golf course, signalling a new direction in his career. However, this exciting news comes amidst ongoing family tensions, as Olly and his twin Ben have not spoken for over 15 years.

Ben has previously accused his famous sibling of prioritising fame over family, even claiming that the Troublemaker singer had 'torn the family apart'.

The feud between the twins began in 2009, the same year Olly appeared on X Factor, when he missed Ben's wedding and his duties as best man to participate in the singing competition's semi-final.

This decision sparked outrage from Ben, who labelled his twin a "self-obsessed sell-out", reports the Mirror.

Back in 2009, speaking to the Sunday People, Ben said: "Our family was torn apart because of X Factor".

His harsh feelings towards his brother became evident when he voiced: "It was clear that people like Simon Cowell were more important to him than me."

Olly confessed on The Voice that he failed to attend his brother's wedding due to his commitments on X Factor. Answering Will.i. am's question about his sibling, Olly admitted with astonishing forthrightness: "I have no idea."

Earlier instances reveal that strain existed between the brothers much before the ITV talent show and accused Ben of using the wedding as a mere "excuse".

On a happier note, Olly recently celebrated his 40th birthday with delightful snaps alongside his newborn daughter, with no mentioned reference of his twin. He shared his joy on Instagram with heart-melting photos of his little one and wrote: "The only gift I wanted for my 40th was to be daddy and here you are xx love you Madi."

In return, fans filled up the comments section with birthday wishes and affectionate remarks on how cute the baby looks in her 'Happy 40th birthday Daddy' babygrow.

Last year in December, Olly and Amelia broke the news of expecting their first child through a social media announcement. And just a month ago, they announced their baby's arrival by sharing an image on Instagram where both could be seen exiting the hospital with their newborn.
