Allyson Felix's team just got bigger!

The retired Olympian, 38, welcomed her second baby with husband Kenneth Ferguson on Wednesday, April 10, confirming the news exclusively with PEOPLE.

"We are overjoyed to welcome our son Kenneth Maurice Ferguson III, who we will lovingly call Trey," Felix tells PEOPLE in a statement. "Born April 10th at 10:55 pm, weighing 7 lbs., 11 oz."

"As a Black woman who already had been through a traumatic life-threatening delivery with my daughter, I desperately wanted a joyful birth experience I could celebrate. I'm so grateful I had a doctor who saw me, heard me and made me feel safe."

"I had a doula who supported, guided and believed in me. I was able to have the unmedicated VBAC I deeply desired. The entire experience was powerful, challenging, healing and so beautiful. My birth experience inspires me to continue to advocate for Black maternal health and the outcomes we can achieve when we listen [to] and support women."

Speaking with PEOPLE last year, the 11x Olympic gold medal-winning runner opened up about embracing her journey into motherhood.

While Felix said her daughter isn't interested yet in running, she's shown some athletic strengths.

"She is definitely sporty," Felix shared. "Right now, we're doing tennis. We're doing soccer, and we're doing a lot of just running around. We're doing dance class, and so I'm just trying to keep up with all of the things and just really expose her. I just want her to have fun."

In 2019, Felix publicly split from her sponsor Nike after undergoing an emergency cesarean section at 32 weeks because of severe preeclampsia that put her and Camryn's life in jeopardy.

Felix claimed that Nike had been pressuring her to return to training as quickly as possible after her pregnancy and offered her a salary that was 70 percent less than her previous compensation. After Felix's revelation, Nike changed their maternity policy for athletes.

"There have been so many women before me who had to stay silent about their fight. And so for me to be able to step out and I think my daughter gave me the courage to do that," Felix told reporters in 2021. "But I think that was really the thing, that this has been going on for far too long. And I hope that we're really changing things."
