The once bustling pub in idyllic Surrey village on the market in 'fantastic' opportunity

A gorgeous Georgian pub in picturesque Surrey village is up for sale. The kings Head in has been stood empty for more than a year. Once a buzzy hive of Old Shepperton village, the pretty red brick property is currently boarded up.

However, there is hope for the historic building yet, as the landlord is on the lookout for an experienced operator to breathe life back into the empty unit for just £35,000 a year. The landlord is even considering a rent-free period to the right bidder and injecting some cash into repairing the site.

Originally built and established in 1759, the pub could be a truly spectacular spot, with grounds stretching back to a romantic creek. The waterway is a sheltered extension of the River Thames, and can be seen from the Kings Head garden.

Inside the traditional pub you can find paneled walls, slate floors and large redbrick fireplaces inside. It’s also got large wooden beams and beautiful sash windows.

Church Square, which the pub overlooks, once was the heart of the village but is now almost forgotten about now the pub is no longer operating. From the sash windows of the pub punters can appreciate St Nicholas Church and the gorgeous yard with poppies and roses behind a brick wall.

The listing reads: "This opportunity suits a community focussed operator with public house experience. With nearby hotels and the idyllic church setting providing footfall and interest from both the local community and tourists to the area, there is a fantastic opportunity to put this characterful pub back at the heart of the village. "

Those living in the village would love to see the pub brought back to its former glory and would welcome somewhere to go for a Sunday lunch and a pint. Charles Boyce, who lives in the village, told SurreyLive the Shepperton spot would be perfect for a boutique hotel, like The Pig in Hampshire.

Echoing this, Bill Boyce said: “We miss having restaurants on our doorstep, the pub and hotel could come back to life under new management.” To read more on life in Old Shepperton, click here .
