Simon Grix has labelled new Hull FC signing John Asiata as 'one of the best players in the competition.' The loose forward will join the club on a three-year deal from next season, with Grix believing it is a show of intent from Richie Myler, Adam Pearson, and all those involved.

The Black and Whites have admitted they are heavily in the recruitment market right now as they look to acquire players both for now and next season. That drive is expected to continue in the near future, with Hull also signing Tom Briscoe on an 18-month deal.

Grix, meanwhile, believes Asiata is the perfect player to come in and drive standards, helping to bring on the club's young players as a leader of the team.

"It's a great signing," Grix told Hull Live. "He's one of the best players in this competition. He's been able to transform Leigh, along with a few other players. He's done a great job over there.

"He's a leader. He trains well, and he's a good professional. These are all good things to have around this club. We're looking at the future and looking to bring our young men through, so having an old head around them will be really good."

Hull fended off interest from other Super League clubs, including his current outfit Leigh, to sign Asiata, who also had NRL interest. However, Hull have shown their ambition, with the player understood to be on a marquee wage.

"We wouldn't have been the only ones in for him, I would imagine, which is a good feather in the cap for Hull," Grix added. "It's also a sign from Richie, Adam, and the people upstairs that they don't want to mess around. They want to get better and I think, while not saying the word statement as there's a lot more work to do yet, signing John is good news for us."
