One Day author reveals Emma's emotional mixtapeNetflix

Ok, so we'd just about recovered from the emotional rollercoaster that is Netflix's adaptation of David Nicholls' One Day, when Nicholls decided to release Emma's mixtape to Dexter, and we're going to need another few days to process our emotions.

In case you missed this blink and you'll miss it, but very important, moment in episode 11, after putting Jasmine to bed, Dexter (Leo Woodall) is rifling through his old stuff when he finds a mixtape from Emma (Ambika Mod). In finding the mixtape he calls Emma and the two reminisce on old times.

And now David Nicholls has shared the entire playlist of what he imagined to be on Emma's mixtape.

Writing on X (formerly known as Twitter) yesterday (12 February) David Nicholls said he wanted to thank everyone for their support of the series and also wanted to share Emma's mixtape.

He wrote: "Thank you for all the lovely messages over the weekend. I'm going to change the subject soon, but one last #OneDay thing; here's my own imaginary mixtape, the kind of thing Emma would have sent Dex (though it's too long ). A sort of musical mood-board."

Nicholls shared a link to the Spotify playlist and it's around eight hours long and includes songs from Aretha Franklin, The Smiths and Blur. Yep, we've definitely found our new playlist obsession.

The One Day author also shared Dexter's mixtape playlist which is certainly more upbeat than Emma's, filled with party tracks which include songs from Daft Punk, Fatboy Slim and New Order.

He also shared a follow up post on X providing a link to the full Netflix series soundtrack which was compiled by the show's music co-ordinator Matt Biffa.

In case you haven't seen the series yet, One Day is an adaptation of David Nicholls book of the same name and follows the lives of best friends Dexter and Emma over a 20-year-period checking in on them on 15th July every year to see how their relationship has progressed. Fair warning: you will need a box of tissues to get through the series.
