'This One Was Different': Dust Storm Sweeps Through Northwest Texas

A large dust storm swept northwest Texas on Sunday, February 26, turning the sky a rusty shade of red and reducing visibility in Lubbock.

Video recorded by Harrison Spencer shows the strong winds blowing debris and dust near residential properties. Spencer told Storyful the dust storm was unlike any he had previously experienced.

“Usually we get high winds but this one was different. Power line poles were swaying. A transformer definitely went out somewhere as a lot of streetlights were flickering,” Spencer said.

The National Weather Service said a blowing dust advisory was in effect for the South Plains on Sunday, with visibility dropping to a quarter-mile at times. Credit: Harrison Spencer via Storyful
