Crowdfunding the next Zack Braff film is one thing - saving the Greek economy from ruin is a whole other thing.

Thom Feeney has set up a page on fundraising site IndieGoGo to pay off €1.6 billion (£1.13 billion) from the Greek debt.

This enterprising chap has experienced some serious success having already raised €176,063 after 11,351 people donated in just two days.

While the campaign is yet to reach one per cent of target, you cannot deny there are a lot of people who want to help out our feta-eating friends.

Mr Feeney told i100: ‘There seems to have been an effort by many media outlets to tell us that cutting, depriving, austerity is necessary for growth and that doens’t really tally with me.

‘I hope very much that the campaign will reach the target.

‘I think it will be a victory for people power. Yes it’s a tall order but I truly believe it can be effective.’

Now all we need him to do is to rescue the NHS and public libraries…We’re waiting Mr Feeney.
