Tributes have been pouring in for an "amazing" great-grandmother who died following a collision over the weekend. North Wales Police confirmed 89-year-old woman Jean Kitchen died after the accident, near Corwen, on Sunday.

In a beautiful tribute, her devastated family said Mrs Kitchen's death has left a "great void" that "can never be filled" as they thanked emergency services for their help.

Mrs Kitchen, who was driving a grey Peugeot 107, was airlifted to hospital in Stoke from the scene on the A5104 at Bryn Eglwys, but died in hospital the following day. Police say the crash also involved a silver Peugeot 206, and a black Jaguar X-type.

Confirming the news, police issued a heartfelt tribute to the great-grandmother from her heartbroken family, North Wales Live reported. They said: "It's hard to keep Jean Kitchen's life and stories within a short paragraph as you could so easily write a book. She was born in Oldham in 1934.

"She took on the career of nurse / midwife and health visitor in her 40s, it was something she absolutely loved and she was immensely passionate about helping others throughout her whole life.

"I think, however she'd admit, the greatest achievement of her life was marrying the love of her life Jim Kitchen, who sadly passed away in 2015. Their long life together was filled to the brim with adventures all around the world - they loved to travel and left their mark wherever they went. Jean was the most amazing mum, grandma, great grandma, aunt and friend that anyone could ask for and she will leave a great void, that can never be filled."

They added: "As a family we would like to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the support we've been given - to all the police, ambulance service, air ambulance and the passers-by that were there to help during her accident, and thank you to everyone for their messages, cards and kind words.

"Everyone that had met Jean had a story to tell about her, which just shows how larger than life she really was. We'll hold all the memories in our hearts wherever we go. She was one in a million, and we were so very lucky to have her. She will be missed so greatly, by so many."

Detective Sergeant Katie Davies, of the serious collision Investigation unit, said: "Our thoughts remain with Jean Kitchen's family and friends at this extremely difficult time. We continue to investigate the circumstances of this incident and I am appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the collision or who has information, who is yet to speak to us, to contact our team."
