One person taken to hospital after two-vehicle crash on major Northumberland road

One person was taken to hospital after two vehicles crashed on a Northumberland road.

Part of the A697, between Longhorsley and Longframlington was closed after the incident, which happened at around 10.15am today.

Police advised motorists to find alternative routes.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "Emergency services are in attendance following a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A697 in the Longhorsley area of Northumberland."

A section of the northbound carriageway of the road was closed at the junction for the B6344, with traffic being diverted via the B6345.

Meanwhile the North East Ambulance Service has confirmed that a patient was taken to hospital.

A spokeswoman said: "We were called to a two vehicle road traffic collision on the A697 at Longframlington at 10.15 this morning. We dispatched two double crewed ambulances, a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader and we were supported by our colleagues at Great North Air Ambulance Service. One patient was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary."
