Mother shot while sleeping at Dothan apartment complex, children unharmed

DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — A woman was injured during an early morning shooting on the west side of Dothan.

Just before 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, Dothan Police rushed to Westgate Village apartments in the 2200 block of Westgate Parkway after a shots fired call came in.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found two apartments and several vehicles with bullet holes in them.

According to Dothan Police, in one of the bullet riddled apartments, officers found an injured woman and her two children. The woman had been shot in the stomach while sleeping in her upstairs bedroom.

The unidentified woman was transported to a local hospital and underwent surgery for her non-life threatning injuries. The children were not injured.

Police say an investigation at the scene revealed shots were fired from two different locations, leading them to believe it was a shootout between two or more people.
