The One Show started its week of new shows by addressing the death of former reporter Dr Michael Mosley after he was found dead while on holiday. The TV doctor, known for his appearances on This Morning and BBC Radio 4's Just One Thing, went missing on the island of Symi where he was holidaying with his wife, Dr Clare Bailey.

The 67-year-old vanished after setting off for a walk alone at around 1.30pm after leaving his wife and friends at Agios Nikolaos beach last Wednesday (June 5). Dr Clare Bailey Mosley has since confirmed a body discovered on Sunday morning (June 9) in a rocky area near Agia Marina beach on the Greek island of Symi was that of her husband, describing the loss as "devastating".

His former colleagues on the BBC show addressed the news on Monday's episode (June 10), which was hosted by Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas. Alex issued a statement at the start of the episode, prior to tributes from other former colleagues.

Alex said: "Good evening. We're starting tonight's show with the sad news that we've lost a dear friend and colleague. Dr Michael Mosley was part of the original line-up of One Show reporters, who made his first appearance in 2007, and he's been a familiar presence on the show ever since."

Her co-host Jermaine added: "We've already had hundreds of messages from you sharing what a difference he made to your lives. Do please keep them coming and we'll read some of them out a bit later in the show. We'll also be joined by Dr Chris Van Tulleken and Dr Hannah Fry, who'll be sharing their memories of working with Michael."

His former colleague Dr Sarah Jarvis said in a tribute later in the episode: "Michael was absolutely charming. He was funny. He was clever." She further commented about him: "But what really came across was that he had this ability to communicate and he wanted to get important messages out."

Ahead of tributes by other former colleagues, Alex said on the show: "It's still very hard to grasp what's happened, I think everybody feels that, don't they? [...] It's an absolute shock." Discussing his memories, Dr Chris said: "I think anyone who watched Michael would know that he was kind of kind and generous on-screen but when he was not on screen that was exactly who he was as well."

Dr Hannah shared: "I cannot tell you how many people, not just on-screen, but off-screen too, whose careers this man helped. [...] On-screen and off-screen [he was] exactly the same person." Alex later concluded: "He will be sorely missed but Michael's legacy will live on. And of course, we send our condolences to Michael's wife Clare, his children and his wider family."

A string of tributes from viewers then played out of black and white pictures of the late broadcaster before it ended with a poignant photo of Mr Mosley alongside '1957 - 2024'.

The BBC show previously paid tribute in a post on social media, which read: "Everyone at the One Show is deeply saddened to hear about our friend and colleague Dr Michael Mosley. He was a much loved and hugely respected member of our original team, making frequent appearances over the years both presenting science films for us and also in the studio, most recently back in February with his wife Clare talking about their joint theatre tour. Our thoughts are very much with Clare and their four children at this extremely difficult time."

A statement from Dr Bailey Mosley confirming the death of her husband read: "I don't know quite where to begin with this. It's devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband. We had an incredibly lucky life together. We loved each other very much and were so happy together. I am incredibly proud of our children, their resilience and support over the past days."

"My family and I have been hugely comforted by the outpouring of love from people from around the world. It's clear that Michael meant a huge amount to so many of you. We're taking comfort in the fact that he so very nearly made it. He did an incredible climb, took the wrong route and collapsed where he couldn't be easily seen by the extensive search team."

"Michael was an adventurous man, it's part of what made him so special. We are so grateful to the extraordinary people on Symi who have worked tirelessly to help find him. Some of these people on the island, who hadn't even heard of Michael, worked from dawn till dusk unasked."

"We're also very grateful to the press who have dealt with us with great respect. I feel so lucky to have our children and my amazing friends. Most of all, I feel so lucky to have had this life with Michael. Thank you all."
