Tucked away in East Sussex, a tranquil pebble beach has been hailed as one of the UK's "best hidden beaches", despite its starring role in numerous films due to its breathtaking views. The beach, which features in Sykes Holiday Cottages' top 10 list of the UK's best hidden beaches, is described as a secret spot where visitors can immerse themselves in the area's rich history.

The beach is framed by the towering white chalk cliffs of Seven Sisters to the east and is situated at the mouth of the Cuckmere River. One of the most iconic viewpoints is looking out over the coastguard cottages towards the cliffs.

This stunning backdrop has led to the beach being used as a filming location for several movies, including Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Kevin Costner's Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

The beach provides an ideal spot for walkers, dog walkers, or simply those who wish to sit under the sun and take in the views. Cuckmere Haven is also a favourite among anglers.

Cuckmere Haven Beach is steeped in history, having once been a hub for smugglers in the 17th and 18th centuries, reports the Express. In the 19th century, it played a crucial role in the fight against smuggling and served as an important base for protecting Britain during the World Wars.

Despite its inclusion in the "best hidden beaches" list, Cuckmere Haven Beach still draws a significant number of visitors each year. It's estimated that around 350,000 people flock to this coastal gem annually.

Located just a short drive from Seaford, Cuckmere Haven Beach is easily accessible with the nearest car park situated at South Hill Barn. As of now, parking here is free for up to two hours.

The beach has been highly rated by previous visitors, boasting a 4.5 out of 5 stars on Tripadvisor and even bagging a Travellers' Choice award in 2023.

One satisfied visitor who reviewed the beach in December 2023 enthused: "The place is gorgeous! ! You can walk to the beach and then climb towards the cliff and walk on the cliff side as well. Loved the view!!"
