Only Fools and Horses star David Jason is set to reprise his iconic role of Del Boy in a one-off episode of Car SOS.

The actor will appear back in character for the special next month, in which he will help to restore a Datsun 240k Skyline.

“David was a special guest on an episode and I managed to persuade him to do Del Boy again," co-host Tim Shaw told the Daily Star. "It’s a sketch that I think will surprise people.

"It was one of the highlights of my life. It’s something I never thought would happen. When was the last time we saw David playing Del Boy? I can’t remember. So it was absolutely surreal.

Elaborating on the sketch, he recalled: “I told David I had an idea for a sketch and he said, ‘Oh, you want some lovely jubbly… go on then, let’s give it a pop’.

“He dropped straight into it. The next thing he’s Del Boy and he’s reading a newspaper and he’s selling some car parts on eBay.”

Fellow presenter Fuzz Townshend further teased: “The car was perfect for him because if you leaned against the roof, you fell straight into it. It was a bit like David’s famous sketch where he fell through the bar."

Shaw added: "David was an absolute pro. He is as sharp as a razor with wits in every sense of the word.”

Only Fools and Horses originally ran between 1981 and 1991, and subsequently returned for a number of specials – the most-recent of which aired in 2003.

Jason has reprised the role of Del Boy for a number of one-off appearances, including the 2021 Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special, where she shared a message for contestant Jay Blades, as well as an animated skit in The Apprentice last year.

Last month, the actor dismissed the idea of a reboot of the show, admitting to the Radio Times: "I've had offers over the years, but without [creator] John Sullivan, it just wouldn't work."

Car SOS returns to National Geographic every Thursday at 8pm from March 7. David Jason appears in episode two airing on March 14.
