Residents in Upwey will be opening their gardens to the public to coincide with an annual scarecrow competition.

On Saturday, June 29 and Sunday June 30 gardens in Upwey will be open to the public.

Despite the recent cool weather gardeners have been undeterred and have been working hard to make their gardens as beautiful and friendly as usual.

There will be a range of gardens on display, from the highest garden in Weymouth, with views to Portland and the sea, to gardens surrounding grand houses with lakes and mazes, cottage gardens and wooded and shady valley gardens.

There’ will also be teas served in the grounds of Mill House in Church Street along with vintage cars, craft stalls, Pimms  and ice creams.

The event has been planned to coincide with the village's annual scarecrow competition, so visitors may come across strange stuffed creatures dotted about.

Admission is £5 for adults, covering both days, from various points around the village.

There is free signposted car park in Church Street.
