Opening date set for Leicestershire's only outdoor lido

The opening date for Leicestershire’s only public lido has been confirmed. Bookings for swimming slots across the coming months are now open ahead of a summer of splash-tastic fun.

The pool at Ashby Leisure Centre and Lido is set to welcome swimmers young and old across the (hopefully) warm summer months. Visitors will be able to enjoy a large sandpit alongside the pool, while ‘Splashby Hut’ will serve a range of refreshments, to help create an ‘Ashby-by-the-Sea’ experience.

Events through the summer include lane swimming and pool parties. Opportunities for private hire events at Ashby Lido are also available.

The pool is run by Everyone Active in partnership with North West Leicestershire District Council. Duncan Gibb, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming families from across the community and seeing everyone enjoying the pool, sun and sand. As the only public lido in Leicestershire, we are expecting a busy summer, so we would encourage people to book their places as early as possible.

"Swimming is a hugely important life skill and the lido allows everyone to enjoy a range of activities, no matter what their age or ability.” Ashby Lido will open to the public this Saturday (May 25).

The full summer programme is as follows.

Holidays outdoor pool programme. This runs between Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, June 2 and then Monday, July 8 to Sunday, September 1.

Monday to Friday:

• Lane swim session - 8am to 8.55am

• Family swim sessions - 9am to 5pm

• Lane swim session - 5pm to 6pm

• Available for hire - 6pm to 8pm (Monday to Thursday)

• Pool party slot - 6.30pm to 8.30pm (Friday)

Saturday and Sunday:

• Lane swim session - 8am to 9.55am

• Family swim sessions - 10am to 5.45pm

• Pool party slot - 6.30pm to 8.30pm (Saturday)

• Available for hire - 6pm to 8pm (Sunday)

Term-time outdoor pool programme. This runs between Monday, June 3 and Sunday, July 7 on Mondays to Fridays.

Monday to Friday:

• Lane swim session - 8am to 10am

• Closed during day - 10am to 4pm

• Closed during evening - 5pm to 6pm (Monday, Wednesday and Friday)

• Lane swim session - 5pm to 6pm (Tuesday and Thursday)

• Available for hire - 6pm to 8pm (Monday and Wednesday)

• Lane swim session - 6pm to 7pm (Tuesday and Thursday)

• Pool party slot - 6.30pm to 8.30pm (Friday)

Saturday and Sunday:

• Lane swim sessions - 8am to 9.55am

• Family swim sessions - 10am to 5.45pm

• Available for hire - 6pm to 8pm (Sunday)
