A Nottingham gym has left customers upset after it announced that it will be closing, almost three years after it opened. Orangetheory Fitness Nottingham studio, in Castle Bridge Road, will shut on Saturday, May 11 and merge with the Orangetheory Fitness Derby studio, which is based at the Wyvern Retail Park, in Wyvern Way.

The news was broken to the gym's users via email and on social media. The Facebook message said: "It is with a very heavy heart that we have reluctantly made the difficult decision to close the doors of our Orangetheory Nottingham Studio and merge our member base with our Orangetheory Derby Studio.

"We have loved growing Orangetheory in Nottingham over the last few years, seeing many of you make incredible progress in your health and fitness goals as well as developing valuable friendships and a sense of community, we look forward to seeing all of this and more continue down the road at Derby."

There are a large number of Ornagetheory Fitness studios around the country, which operate as franchises. Orangetheory is a fitness studio that offers one-hour, heart-rate based workouts that cater to all fitness levels. The workout is built around a combination of cardio, rowing and resistance training to give you a well-balanced workout that improves fitness and leaves calories being burnt for up to 36 hours after the workout.

Class participants are also given heart rate monitors to wear and data is shown about calories and heart rate percentages are shown on screens around the room.

Several members took to social media comment. One said: "Beyond devastating... Thinking of all the coaches and staff - thanks for all the good times and the "extra life". Not just a gym but a community - you can never replace that."

While another remarked: "I think I’m going to cry. Can’t believe it. Absolutely gutted. Sadly, there’s no way I can make Derby work. Honestly so sad. Hope you guys are all ok."

The fitness revolution started in America and arrived in Nottingham almost three years ago at the end of May 2021, opening on the site of a former Harvester. It has two floors of high-tech equipment for a mix of endurance and strength-building programmes designed to meet the specific goals of members. Ten new jobs were created at the time it opened.
