A new outdoor bar is set to open in Liverpool city centre.

Several wooden tables, green mats, shipping containers and a stage have been put over the past week in Exchange Flags. Signs put up advertising the space show it’s called Exchange Bar but the full details of what it will offer have not been revealed yet.

A sign shows a red-tinted picture of the square and describes the bar as a “new way to relax”, followed by the slogan “we are coming”. The bar’s website currently states: “See another side to yourself... A new bar coming to Exchange Flags in Liverpool city centre.”

Those interested in getting the latest information about the bar are then invited to join the mailing list. However, the bar's Instagram account offers a few more clues.

Pictures have been shared of a functioning bar and a free ‘test launch’ took place last night. A big screen was put up on one of the shipping containers in Exchange Flags showing England's Euros semi-final match against the Netherlands.

The bar has also described itself as “your new local” with alcohol, food, fun and live music. One business that looks set to be part of the bar is Barnacle. The restaurant is currently located in the Duke Street Market and offers ‘international cuisine’, including fish and chips, chicken curry and bao buns.

Several posts on bar's Instagram stories showed employees from Barnacle setting up a new site in Exchange Bar, with one picture posted yesterday captioned: “Setting up for an exciting weekend…” This suggests the bar could be up and running later this week.

A further post showed a staff member with a hot dog and asked its followers: “Have you guessed what we’re doing?”

Exchange Flags is a popular thoroughfare in Liverpool linking Tithebarn Street to Liverpool Town Hall and Castle Street. The square includes several offices and restaurants including tapas venue El Cato Negro.
