Outlander fans convinced another character is a time traveller - and it's not Rob Cameron

The popular historical fantasy series Outlander might introduce another character as a secret time traveller by the end of its final season.

As we approach the concluding episodes of Starz drama's seventh season, Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) and Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) are tasked with an impossible mission after their son Jemmy (Blake Johnston Miller) is seemingly transported back in time by Rob Cameron (Chris Fulton).

Simultaneously, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) are returning to their roots in Scotland.

However, there may be more timeline jumps before the eighth and final season concludes the Frasers' saga.

A sharp-eyed fan suggested on Reddit that Amaranthus might also have the ability to travel through history.

Amaranthus is a fresh face in the second part of season seven and is related to fan-favourite Lord John Grey (Tim Downie).

Carla Woodcock will portray her, and if this prediction holds true, she could play a significant role in the upcoming episodes and the forthcoming eighth and final season.

One fan of Diana Gabaldon's original novels shared on Reddit: "I read the theory before that Amaranthus is a time traveller."

"After listening to Ch. 125 of Bees (Book nine, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone) again yesterday I'm convinced that it's true."

The fan then detailed an interaction involving Amaranthus, where she uses the phrase "on display", a term not commonly used until after 1900.

"Also, her reaction to William mentioning Tarleton and Ferguson later in the chapter gives me the impression," the enthusiast added.

"She knows about their roles in the battles from history books, especially her question about Tarleton escaping injury."

If this theory holds water, Claire might have another time traveller to confide in as the Frasers brace themselves for whatever Outlander's final chapter throws at them.

However, some fans were sceptical, with one highlighting a moment when Diana herself seemed taken aback by the speculation.

In a chat with Survived the Shows, she appears to dismiss the theory, but also concedes "she could be" as she hadn't penned any scenes with her for the forthcoming tenth novel at that point.

The eighth and concluding series of the popular Starz drama is anticipated to deviate unexpectedly from Diana's novels, so who can predict what awaits when Outlander resumes?

Outlander season 7, part 2 premieres Friday, November 22 on Starz.
