Stephen Merchant, the towering co-creator of 'The Office', has found himself banned from a UK store after criticising their range. The Outlaws actor apparently made disparaging remarks in an interview which saw him slapped with a lifetime ban from the aisles.

Standing at a sky-scraping 6ft 7in, the 49 year old comedy giant was reportedly given the cold shoulder by the High and Mighty following his uncomplimentary comments during an interview with Time Out. He got wind of the ban when a costume department worker, who was out shopping for him, was informed by a shop assistant.

Stephen told the Sunday Express: "The woman behind the counter said, 'Which actor? '... 'Is it him?'" before she whipped out the Time Out interview. He went on: "She pulled out a copy of the Time Out interview and said, 'We're not selling clothes to him.'".

In a twist that's as funny as it is unfortunate, Stephen also recounted on a US chat show how he used to walk around London with three wallets, two of which were decoys to fool potential muggers. But his clever ruse was foiled when a thief opted to take his phone instead, reports the Mirror.

Sharing the tale with Seth Meyers, he quipped: "They were walking away and I was like, 'Do you want a wallet? '".

To top off his series of humorous mishaps, Stephen shared in his latest stand-up special a cringe-worthy moment where he misread a woman's gesture. Believing she was flirting, he soon realised she only wanted to use him as a meeting point, explaining: "I was in Trafalgar Square at New Year. So I was watching the New Year fireworks."

"It was approaching midnight and a woman kind of was looking at me and I was like, 'Hang on, here we go. Game on. This lady's seen me on the telly. She wants a little piece of Stephen. She's only human.' And she came up and she said, 'Are you going to be here for a while? ' And I said, 'Yes, I am! '".

"And she said, 'Great, because my friends and I have arranged to meet back at you.' Because I'm 6ft 7in. I'm normally about a foot and a half taller than most people in any crowd. She said, 'Don't worry. You can still move around. We'll see you wherever you are.' And yeah, by about five past midnight, a bunch of people were just gathered around me."
