Owensboro Memorial Gardens to host Memorial Day events

Owensboro Memorial Gardens will host Memorial Day Weekend events May 21 and May 25. This year’s events will include a flag placement, a food drive to support local veterans fighting hunger, and our annual “A Day of Remembrance” celebration.

Flag Placement

On Tuesday, May 21 at 9 a.m., Owensboro Memorial Gardens will host a flag placement event where the public is invited to help ensure every veteran resting at the gardens has a flag on their final resting place. The office will provide flags, resting place locations, and refreshments on the porch. In case of rain or inclement weather, May 22 will serve as an alternate date.

A Day of Remembrance

On Saturday, May 25 at 2 p.m., Owensboro Memorial Gardens will host “A Day of Remembrance”. The 26th annual event will take place at Field of Honor in Owensboro Memorial Gardens and will feature speaker Tyler Russelburg and musician Clint Campbell. Other activities include the VFW 696 Honor Guard, a salute to our fallen heroes, the Community Band, singers and a dove release. The public is invited to be a part of this uplifting Memorial Day celebration.

Food Drive for Veterans

Also on Saturday, May 25, Owensboro Memorial Gardens will host a food drive where 100% of donations will go to a local food bank that helps local veterans fighting hunger. A list of the most needed items will be posted on its Facebook page.
