The owner of a popular bar in Exeter city centre has taken over tenancy of gastropub The Oddfellows on New North Road. It comes after the pub closed down following a change of management in September 2021.

A spokesperson for Victoria Inns has confirmed that the owner of Coolings and The Cellar Bar on Gandy Street is the new tenant of The Oddfellows gastropub. The premises is set to reopen shortly and is currently undergoing improvement, including a rebranding with a new name of 'The Nest'.

The freehold of The Oddfellows Arms has been owned by Victoria Inns Ltd since 2007 when the venue changed from a traditional pub into a gastropub and restaurant. From 2006 it was run by couple Faye and Yvan Williams for more than 15 years until they sold the business in 2021 to focus on other ventures.

After a lease was assigned and being taken over by new management in 2021, the business went through various changes, including multiple name changes. The venue was subsequently closed down in June this year and it was reported last week that it was on the market for £525,000.

Victoria Inns Ltd said they "are delighted to have an experienced operator in place and looking forward to seeing the building back in full use right in the heart of Exeter city centre."

'The Nest' will be reopened on October 14 once improvement works have been carried out on the building.
