Motherwell have signed former Oxford United defender Steve Seddon on a one-year deal.

The 26-year-old left-back becomes boss Stuart Kettlewell's 10th signing of the summer, and comes with the option of a further year, should it suit both parties.

Coming through Reading's academy, Seddon has also had spells at Birmingham City, Portsmouth and Cambridge United, and spent last season on loan at Burton Albion.

Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell told the club's website: "This was an area of the pitch we knew we needed to strengthen.

"We have been trying to recruit someone who is not only the right type of player but the right type of person, too.

"Steve has played a lot of football down in England, and with that comes vast experience. He likes to get forward, which is something that is important in our system.

"I hope he hits the ground running. I've spoken with him since his arrival at Fir Park and you can tell he's raring to get going."

Seddon said: "This is the first time I've come across the border to play. It's an exciting opportunity and something really different for me.

"The manager spoke to me at length about the vision for the club and that's what grabbed me.

"It's not just about the present, he's planning for the future, and looking to build. Hopefully I can play my part in that."
