A mum "trusted" a man with her daughter but he "violated" her in order to "satisfy his perverted desires".

Dean Redmond asked the teenage girl "if she wanted to be treated like a kid" before sexually abusing her in her own home and leaving her "whole life turned upside down". He then gave a fake name when confronted over his vile attack, showered in order to "conceal evidence" and accused her of making false allegations.

Liverpool Crown Court heard yesterday, Tuesday, that the 27-year-old "turned up unexpectedly" to the family home on a day when his victim was off school. Her mum then left the address in order to take her other children to school and to attend an appointment.

Frank Dillon, prosecuting, described how, once alone with the complainant in the kitchen, Redmond "asked her if she wanted to be treated like a kid or her age" and kissed her. He then followed her upstairs to her bedroom and "got on top of her and started kissing her neck" with his "hands all over her body".

The pervert went on to lift her bra up and grope her before touching her vagina. Redmond - of Sycamore Lane in Great Sankey, Warrington - then "asked her if she wanted to keep going", but he left and went downstairs after she told him no.

However, he then returned to her room once more and tried to pull her shorts down. She subsequently reported the incident to an adult. who confronted the defendant - who claimed that his name was Ryan.

Police officers attended his home later the same morning and arrested him, with a knuckle duster being seized during a search of his property. Redmond was said to have "recently showered" in what was described as an "attempt to conceal evidence".

He initially denied having assaulted the girl and stated that she had "accused him of being a drug dealer and supplying drugs to her mother". The paedophile claimed that she had warned him that "if he didn't get out of the house she would say he had touched her".

In a statement which was read to the court on her behalf, the victim detailed how she has been left suffering from "constant" flashbacks and nightmares and added: "Since the incident, my whole life has been turned upside down. I no longer feel safe anywhere.

"My mum said she can't remember the last time she saw me smile or laugh. I just constantly feel down.

"I have felt empty inside ever since it happened. At night when I close my eyes and when I'm awake, it's all I think about.

"I just can't get it out of my head. I just don't feel myself any more."

Her mum added in her own statement: "I thought I could trust him. I look at life differently now.

"She was my innocent little girl. She didn't understand what had happened.

"I had to explain why he had done what he had done. This is not a conversation a mum should have to have with her daughter.

"She should have been safe. Now I live in fear in a place that should be a safe space."

Redmond previously received a suspended prison sentence for being concerned in the supply of cannabis in 2015 and was fined for battery in 2018. Julian Nutter, defending, told the court: "He has no previous convictions for any sexual offences whatsoever.

"He has been in good employment. The inevitable custodial sentence will destroy his capacity to support his family."

Redmond admitted four counts of sexual assault and possession of an offensive weapon in a private place. Wearing a black shirt and tie in the dock, he was jailed for four years and two months.

Sentencing, Recorder Richard Pratt KC said: "You began a series of sexual assaults upon her by forcibly trying to kiss her. She sought to escape your attentions, but you were undeterred.

"I am entirely satisfied that she did not give you the slightest indication that she wanted you to touch her sexually. She was plainly in deep distress, and that distress has continued.

"She has, on any view, been significantly affected psychologically by your actions. It has disrupted her upbringing significantly, in my view.

"A teenager's bedroom should be a place of security and privacy. It has become, in her case, a place of the terrifying memory of what you did to her.

"You have, in so many ways, violated her. Despite the fact that she was a child, you found her sexually attractive and wanted to satisfy your perverted desires there and then despite her age.

"To add insult to injury, you accused her of making false allegations. You persisted with that lie.

"Scientific evidence exposed your case once and for all. Only then did you own up.

"I do bear in mind your own family circumstances. I bear in mind that you have had a good job and provided for your family.

"I bear in mind also that this will be the first custodial sentence that you will be required to serve. The reality is that your actions have shown very little remorse at all, trying to avoid responsibility for what you did."

Redmond was also handed a restraining order banning him from contacting his victim indefinitely. He was told to sign the sex offenders' register for life.
