Paignton Wetherspoon pub to reopen after £2.3m expansion

Wetherspoon has announced a reopening date for The Talk of the Town in Paignton after a £2.3million revamp. The seaside town's popular pub will open its doors again on Tuesday June 4.

It shut for a massive upgrade on February 3. A new bigger and bolder version of the pub on Torbay Road is now almost ready to be unwrapped.

The redevelopment work has included expansion into a next door property, with a new ground floor extension and extended beer gardens. The pub has undergone a complete refurbishment to the customer area, as well as upgrades to the new extended kitchen, fully refurbished toilets and new staff facilities.

Twenty full and part-time jobs have been created. Customers will get their first glimpse when the doors open at 8am.

Other work at the pub includes an increase in size from 3,675 to 5,420 square feet of customer space. Both the front and rear beer gardens have also been enlarged. The main entrance to the pub has been moved into the new extension and is now in front of the new bar (which has also moved position) to allow for easier access and flow of customers.

It has been refurbished and redecorated throughout, including a new colour scheme and finishes, new bespoke carpet, new lighting and furniture, as well as booth seating. The heating and cooling system in the pub has been renewed, the flat roofs have been replaced and the pitched roofs fully renovated.

The Talk of the Town pub will be open from 8am until 12midnight Sunday to Thursday, and 8am until 1am Friday and Saturday. Food will be served throughout the day, from opening until 11pm every day.

The pub will be open for family dining, with children, accompanied by an adult, in the pub until 9pm, throughout the week.

“I am delighted that we have also been able to create 20 new jobs in the town.
