The Palace Broke Its Silence to Shut Down a Rumor About Kate Middleton’s Cancer Treatment

A Reddit post and TikTok set off rumors that Kate Middleton is seeking cancer treatment in Houston, rather than in the U.K., but it didn’t take long for Kensington Palace to shut that down completely though.

The Palace told The Houston Chronicle that Kate is not being treated at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas. A Reddit post alleged that Kate recently stayed at the St. Regis Hotel in Houston, leading a TikTok user to discuss the post.

Additionally, local news station KHOU contacted the BBC, who told the outlet that royal sources informed them Kate hasn’t left the U.K. since her cancer diagnosis earlier this year. Both outlets contacted MD Anderson Cancer Center, which was unable to comment on whether or not Kate was there, due to patient privacy laws.

Kensington Palace’s comment on the theory comes after a spokesperson for the Palace spoke about Kate’s return to work date last week. “We have been really clear that [Kate] needs the space and the privacy to recover right now,” the rep told Us Weekly. “She will return to work when she has had the green light from doctors.”

Kate shared news of her cancer diagnosis in March, after doctors found cancer when she went in for planned abdominal surgery in January.

“At the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous,” she said. “The surgery was successful, however, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should go a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I’m now in the early stages of that treatment.”

She asked royal watchers to respect her and her family’s wishes for privacy. “We hope that you’ll understand that as a family, we now need some time, space, and privacy while I complete my treatment,” she said. “My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy, and I look forward to being back when I am able. But for now, I must focus on making a full recovery.”
