Palestine teacher is finalist in national classroom furniture giveaway

PALESTINE, Texas (KETK) – A teacher in Palestine is one of 12 national finalists in KI’s Classroom Furniture Giveaway.

Tyler ISD awards nearly $80,000 to enhance student learning across 16 campuses

Tyler Hebert, a career and technical education teacher at Westwood High School, is competing to win $40,000 worth of furniture.

“Mrs. Hebert designed a versatile makerspace that makes it easy for students to collaborate on hands-on activities, from making robots to tufting rugs. She focused on creating different ‘zones’ to support students’ autonomy as they choose where and how to build and learn,” said in a press release from Keybridge Communications.

In a video submission, Herbert said she hopes to win first place to get new furniture as she believes it Is hard for students to learn in a boring environment.

“You can see on my drawings or my design for the new classroom that I have definitely tried to create a space where students can create things and they have that makerspace side of things,” Hebert said. “But then they also have that learning, traditional learning environment where they can sit in a seat and have their laptop out and kind of just absorb all the information that I am giving.”

Four of the 12 finalists will be selected to win the giveaway. Voting is open to the public until Jan. 31 and winners will be announced on Feb. 2. To vote on the designs and learn the stories of the finalists, you can visit KI’s website.
