Sir Tom Jones says he is recovering well after revealing he recently underwent hip surgery.

The music legend, 82, had his left hip replaced in 2017 and has now confirmed that he has had his right one done, too.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, the Deliah singer assured fans that it had gone “very well” and he hoped to be “back soon”.

He wrote: “Papa has two new hips now! For all those concerned and sent in well wishes, I am pleased to report my recent surgery went very well, I’m following orders and doing my physio, so happy to say I will be back soon!”

Sir Tom admitted earlier this year that he needed the surgery after sparking concern when he was seen walking with a cane, but was struggling to find time to fit it into his busy touring schedule.

Speaking to the Standard and other press at ITV’s Entertainment Autumn Showcase, The Voice judge was in good spirits as he explained: “I’ve got to have a new hip.

“I had [my left hip] done five years ago and it worked great, so now [my right hip’s] starting to go – wear and tear! So, at the moment, I’m bone on bone! That’s what the fella [doctor] told me.

“But I’ve got a tour to do in America first, I can’t go in now. He said, ‘Well, you should!’ I said, ‘I can’t, I’ve got a show to do!’”
