Angel can't walk, talk, eat': Distraught mum's plea after daughter's attacker handed lenient sentence

The parents of a teenager left brain damaged after being kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend have slammed his seven-and-a-half year jail sentence.

Angel Lynn, 19, was found lying seriously injured in the carriageway of the A6 near Loughborough, Leicestershire, after Chay Bowskill attempted to kidnap her on 17 September 2020.

Bowskill, and friend Rocco Sansome, both 20, were jailed on Thursday, with Bowskill handed a seven-and-a-half year sentence and Sansome 21 months.

Patrick and Nikki Lynn appeared on Good Morning Britain on Monday and criticised the sentences, with Nikki saying the pair would be out "ruining someone else's life" soon.

Speaking to hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls, Nikki Lynn broke down in tears as she said that it "doesn't bear thinking about" how many amendments they needed to make to their home so that their daughter can be brought home.

"I think it should be looked at again and I think he should get a longer sentence," she said. "Judge Spencer said, 'you're looking at a hefty sentence'. I don't think that's a hefty sentence at all."

CCTV footage shows the moment the teenager's boyfriend, Chay Bowskill, chased her as she walked off during an argument. Seconds later he bundled her into a silver Transit van, which was driven off at pace by Sansome.

The clip shows Bowskill grabbing Lynn from behind and carrying her back across the road in Mountsorrel, Leicestershire.

Police said Lynn exited the vehicle at some point in the journey - but the court could not establish how - and she now requires “round the clock care” due to the injuries she suffered.

Bowskill's sentence will be reviewed to see if it was “unduly lenient”.

The attorney general said on Monday the seven-and-a-half year jail term will be considered under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme.

Bowskill was convicted of kidnap, coercive and controlling behaviour, and perverting the course of justice following a trial at Leicester Crown Court. He was found not guilty of a causing grievous bodily harm.

Sansome was also found guilty of kidnap and sentenced to 21 months in prison.

In a statement confirming the sentence would be reviewed, a spokeswoman for the Attorney General’s office said: “We have received a request for this sentence to be considered under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme. The Law Officers have 28 days from sentencing to consider the case and make a decision.”

Lynn's mother told GMB hosts Susannah Reid and Ed Balls: "Angel will probably still be lying in bed when he's out, ruining someone else's life.

"She can't walk, talk, eat... we don't know if she knows who we are when we visit. We want to bring her home but we don't live in the biggest of houses.

"It doesn't bear thinking how much we've got to do."

In a statement released after the sentencing hearing, Lynn’s family said: “Our lives have been changed beyond recognition forever.
