Paris Hilton has criticised Hollywood parents for spoiling their children out of “guilt”, insisting she was never indulged by her family.

The heiress grew up at the Waldorf Astoria in New York, part of the Hilton hotel group, but says she was always given chores. She built her own business empire and is said to have a net worth of £80 million.

She told ES Magazine she and her siblings “weren’t spoilt”, adding: “We always had that work ethic, instilled in my father by his father, and passed on for generations in my family.”

Having made her name in reality television, Hilton, 36, has hit out at those in Hollywood who push their children into the limelight and then live their lives through them.

She said: “You know, like actresses’ moms, who kind of live off their kid, who’s been working since they were like a month old. And that’s a big percentage of Hollywood. I saw a lot of kids growing up in families who weren’t there for them, and just spoiled them because they felt guilty.”

She was a frequent face on the London party scene in the early Noughties — when she could charge $1 million to turn up to a nightclub.

She said: “I’m obsessed with the accents and the people and the food and just everything about London. It’s my favourite city in the world.”

When asked if she missed her partying days, she replied: “No, I am so happy now. When you are young and growing up you find out who you are when you live life. I want to be a good influence on other girls to inspire them to be businesswomen and show, like, girl power.”

She has been dating actor Chris Zylka for three months and said: “I’m so in love. He’s the man of my life. We’re best friends.”
