An exciting new street art park has opened to the public in Glasgow 's Finnieston Street and it's free to enter for people to enjoy.

Park XR at Skypark 7 led by Yardworks, opened at the weekend (June 14-16), bringing back the UK’s most loved street and graffiti artists to transform shipping containers into large-scale canvasses showcasing new artwork and augmented reality installations.

This free public event is part of SWG3’s innovative new partnership between Yardworks and Skypark, which has seen Skypark 7, the vacant site between Finnieston Street and Exhibition Centre train station, transformed into PARK XR, a "dynamic hub of artistic expression".

The organisers say the event is free to enter but asks that people book slots in advance from the website.

Led by Yardworks, SWG3’s globally renowned street arts and graffiti programme, this new project PARK XR, blends street art and contemporary art within a unique 43,000 sq ft space.

Running until June 30, artists are commissioned to create murals, light installations, and inventive art displays, blurring the lines between street art and contemporary art and enriching the area with even more cultural vibrancy.

Each weekend, a programme of free workshops and activities provide opportunities to learn more about street art, graffiti and digital art led by artists and Invisible Cities will lead informative tours of the artworks.

Virtual Reality weekend, on June 21-23, will see the site activated with extended reality layers, using the most cutting-edge technology using an iPhone or smart phone to engage in an immersive digital experience on a scale "never seen in Scotland before".

Digital street art is rapidly emerging as a new way for artists to activate spaces through technology, and virtual reality murals are an exciting way of bringing a broader range of art to the streets of cities.

Yardworks studio director, Gary McKay, said: ‘Our opening weekend was brilliant, despite the good Scottish weather. Artist’s painting against the iconic backdrop of Glasgow’s riverside was quite magical.

"We’re really looking forward to welcoming more people to the site over the next couple of weeks and showing off not only street and graffiti arts but digital arts too. We’re open 11-6 over the weekends and will be open for schools and communities through the week - just get in touch to book a slot."
