Some parking tickets can be thrown straight in the bin, expert explains

Consumer experts have explained there are some parking ticket you can happily ignore - with no risk of being fined or being taken to court. There are different kinds of parking tickets slapped on cars when drivers leave their vehicles.

Some are issued by councils, some by private companies. And some have no force at all according to Which? video reporter Lucia Ariano.

Sharing a video online, she said people can appeal a parking ticket if the signs are not clear, if the charge is more than £100, or if there is a mitigating reason such as ill health, or if your car broke down.

And she added that if the parking company is not a member of an accredited trading association - either the British Parking Association or the Independent Parking Committee - you can ignore the fine, reports the Echo.

Lucia said: "[The company] won't be able to get your details from the DVLA to make you pay." If the parking company is accredited, you can write an appeal letter and should include evidence such as photos of poor signage and evidence of any mitigating circumstances.

Official bodies, like councils and the police can issue parking tickets, and these will usually need to be paid.
