Patrick Mahomes makes Louis Rees-Zammit feelings crystal clear in revealing interview

Kansas City Chiefs quarter-back Patrick Mahomes has described former Wales wing Louis Rees-Zammit as an "unreal" athlete.

For those unfamiliar with NFL, Mahomes is the third-highest paid quarter-back in the league (on total guaranteed contract money), and is already considered as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport at just 28. He is set to earn $208m (£162m) between 2023 and 2026.

Rees-Zammit is currently back in the UK, but has been in pre-season training with Mahomes and his Chiefs team-mates for the last couple of months, following his signing in March.

Rees-Zammit has impressed coaches and team-mates since his arrival, but now he has received praise in the highest form, with superstar QB Mahomes explaining that he can "make stuff happen".

"We're starting him at running back," explained Mahomes. "He'll do a lot of special team stuff, and he can actually catch. So it looks different. He catches it like he's catching a rugby (ball), but he never drops the football, so you don't complain about it.

"And I think what's been the best part about it is he works his tail off. The athletic ability is unreal. He's got the toughness, but until he gets in the game and understands how to move and how to use that athletic ability, you don't know exactly where he's at. But [when] he's in space, man, he can make stuff happen."

Previously, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid had branded the Penarth product as "diligent" and noted his yearning to be the best. Speaking back in early May, Reid said: "This camp was good for him for that reason. He got a lot of reps. When the guys are here, he’s rotating with those guys. He didn’t get a ton of reps there, but this gave him an opportunity to really jump in and learn. He’s so diligent with everything and wants to be so good at everything. I’ve appreciated that, and you could see the progress he’s made."

Chiefs winger Isiah Pacheco has previously said: "Adjusting to football is the talent. You've got to love the sport, and he loves it. He's willing to do everything it takes to get better everyday.

"It's going to be hard to bring him down. You've got equipment on out there, so it'll definitely be hard to take him down."
