Patrick Mahomes Shares a 'Family Favorite' Chili Recipe
This turkey chili from the Kingdom Cookbook "has become a staple in the Mahomes family"
Cold Kansas City nights are made warmer in the Mahomes household with this turkey chili.
Patrick Mahomes and more of the Kansas City Chiefs players share recipes in the new Kingdom Cookbook. The digital cookbook is only available in the Chiefs mobile app — and also includes Travis Kelce's favorite magic marshmallow rolls courtesy of his mom Donna Kelce.
Patrick — who shares two kids with wife Brittany Mahomes — chose a green turkey chili, originally created by their private chef. "This recipe has become a staple in the Mahomes family that they make often," reads the cookbook.
It's a hearty soup with ground dark meat turkey, sweet potatoes, and more. Poblano peppers get charred before being added to a blender with cilantro, enchilada sauce, green chilis, chicken stock, corn and cannellini beans.
Once that's pureed, creating the soup's liquid, the turkey is sautéed separately from onions, garlic and the potatoes, which also cook down in a stock pot. Then everything gets combined with sazon and meat church seasoning, more corn and beans.
Suggested toppings include cheese, sour cream avocado and more cilantro.
Patrick and Brittany are parents to daughter Sterling Skye, 2, and son Patrick "Bronze" Lavon, 13 months.
The release of the Kingdom Cookbook celebrates NFL playoff season as the Chiefs prepare to play the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
The team also released a Hallmark movie spoof called Falling for Football in honor of the "holiday." It features several Chiefs figures like Mitch Holthus and Donna, as well as actors Tyler Hynes and Pretty Little Liars star Janel Parrish.
Hynes and Parrish play a couple whose love is tested by football.
"You know," says Donna in her acting debut, "the heart can be in two places at once."
