Espanyol goalkeeper Pau Lopez has confirmed that he will not be returning to Tottenham next season.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at White Hart Lane and made quite the impression on manager Mauricio Pochettino despite not playing a game for the first-team.

Spurs had the option to buy Lopez for £6.2million but that expired at the end of June with the Premier League side unable to negotiate an extension.

And Lopez has now confirmed he is now focused on securing a starting spot at Espanyol rather than returning to London to battle it out with Michel Vorm for the right to be Hugo Lloris' understudy.

"I do not know where all this comes from, nobody has told me that [Espanyol] do not count on me and I will be here all season, no matter what," Lopez told Diario AS.

“I am happy to be at home because Espanyol is my home and I am happy with my teammates. When you spend one year away you value even more when you return.

"[In London] you are out of the comfort zone and that makes you evolve on a personal level, you also know a new league and a new way of training.

“I was in a team with incredible players and a coach (Mauricio Pochettino) to whom I am thankful for the experience they gave me."
