Yahoo News Paul Mescal, Andrew Scott find love and ghosts in emotional “All of Us Strangers” trailer
Falling in love can be hard when you're seeing the ghosts of your long-deceased parents. That's the kind of baggage that's difficult to unpack, but that's the premise of the upcoming All of Us Strangers, a brutally emotional and cathartic film which just got a trailer, courtesy of Searchlight Pictures.
Andrew Scott, a.k.a. the Hot Priest of Fleabag and John Parry of His Dark Materials, plays Adam, a screenwriter living in a near-empty apartment complex in London. One night, Harry (Aftersun and Normal People's Paul Mescal), virtually his only neighbor in the building, knocks at his door with a flirtatious smile. The two fall swiftly and passionately into a relationship.
At the same time, Adam is experiencing quite the phenomenon. His parents, who died 30 years earlier in a car crash when he was just a boy, appear to be living once again in his childhood home — and they look exactly as they did the day of their fatal accident. The Crown's Claire Foy and Rocketman's Jamie Bell play Adam's mom and dad.
It becomes an opportunity to say the things he never got to say, but also deal with the lingering trauma left by their absence. "I've always felt like a stranger in my own family," Harry says as the pair lie naked on Adam's apartment floor, talking about their lives to the sound of the song "Always On My Mind."
"It's funny," Adam answers, "it doesn't take much to make you feel the way you felt."
