Paul Mescal's best movie Aftersun is now streaming on Netflix US.

The All of Us Strangers star plays a young single father in the film, with the role earning Mescal both a BAFTA and Oscar nomination for Best Actor in 2023.

Aftersun landed on Netflix US today (June 21), and is currently available to watch in the UK on BBC iPlayer for the next seven months.

The movie sees Calum (Mescal) take his 11-year-old daughter Sophie (newcomer Frankie Corio) on holiday to Turkey during the '90s, in what was their final vacation together.

Brief cuts to an adult Sophie (played by Celia Rowlson-Hall) 20 years on appear later in the the film, as she looks back on her father's behaviour in what she now understands to be a silent struggle with depression.

"Mescal shines as Calum, bringing a quiet depth and deep well of anger that you know is lingering beneath his often still waters," read Digital Spy's review at the time.

Aftersun debuted with a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating (it now sits at 96%), with both central performances praised.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Mescal reflected on the role of Calum and the driving force behind his performance, saying: "Being a dad is the thing that he loves being the most in the world.

"I think he struggles with a lot of the rest of his life, to really tie a job down, but I think he is an excellent father."

Aftersun is the directorial debut of Charlotte Wells, who drew from her own childhood memories when writing the film. Wells won the award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer at the 2023 BAFTAs.

Released in December 2022, the film had its first network premiere on BBC Two in February this year and was added to BBC iPlayer.

Aftersun is available to watch now on US Netflix and BBC iPlayer, and it's also available to rent or buy on Amazon, iTunes, Sky Store and more.
