The August bank holiday could potentially alter the payment date for thousands of benefit recipients, affecting payments such as universal credit and personal independence payments (PIP). If your payment is scheduled for Monday, August 26, it's likely you'll receive your money on Friday, August 23 instead, given that the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) does not distribute benefits on bank holidays.

However, if you're due to be paid earlier, you'll need to budget carefully as there will be a longer gap until your next payment. Your benefits will be deposited into your usual account as normal and the amount you're due to receive will remain unchanged.

Whether you get paid early or not depends entirely on when you usually receive your benefits. For instance, UC is disbursed on the same day each month, while tax credits are typically paid every four weeks or weekly, reports Wales Online.

What if I don't receive my payment?

If your benefit payment doesn't arrive as expected, first verify the date on your award notice and your bank account. If the date is correct and the money hasn't arrived, you should contact the relevant helpline.
